The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a schedule change for Match No. 19 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The fixture, originally planned for Sunday, April 6, at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, has now been rescheduled to Tuesday, April 8, 2025, with a 3:30 PM IST start.
The decision follows a request from Kolkata Police, which cited security concerns due to citywide festivities. Kolkata Police had informed the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) about their constraints in deploying adequate personnel for crowd management at Eden Gardens, given the heavy security requirements across the city. Acting upon this request, BCCI agreed to reschedule the match.
BCCI honorary secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed the change in an official statement on Friday. "The authorities have recommended that the game be moved to Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 3:30 PM, and the request has been accommodated accordingly. The rest of the schedule remains unchanged," Saikia stated.
With this change, April 6 will now feature only one IPL match, with Sunrisers Hyderabad hosting Gujarat Titans at 7:30 PM IST. Meanwhile, April 8 has now become a double-header, with KKR vs LSG in the afternoon, followed by Punjab Kings taking on Chennai Super Kings in the evening at the New Chandigarh venue.
While such last-minute schedule shifts are rare, IPL authorities have occasionally made adjustments to accommodate logistical challenges, including elections, security demands, and unforeseen circumstances. Fans who had booked tickets for the original April 6 fixture will be provided options to either retain their tickets for the rescheduled match or seek a refund through the official ticketing platforms.
Despite the minor disruption, KKR and LSG will now have a slightly different preparation timeline. Both teams will need to adjust their travel schedules accordingly, with KKR getting a couple of extra days before their home game. The IPL organizers have assured that all necessary arrangements are in place to avoid any inconvenience for fans and teams alike.
